The Red Castle is the only castle in Heroldsberg that has retained the original color of its shutters as its namesake. It was built by Martin III. Geuder in 1489. Albrecht Dürer, a friend of Martin Geuder, stayed in the Red Castle in 1510. He made from here the well-known pen drawing "The Kirchdorf". The picture is now in the Musee Bonnat in Bayonne / southern France.

Inside, the Red Castle holds numerous ancestral images of the Geuder and works of art as well as the Geuderarchiv dating back to 1330. In the courtyard next to the former servants' houses are the barn built in 1539, an oven and a draw well. The archway - entrance to the castle courtyard - dates back to 1711. The castle garden and castle pond were created in the Baroque period and are still preserved in their basic features to this day.
