The Nuremberg chemistry professor Johann Friedrich Engelhart discovered the first dinosaur bones in Germany in 1834 near Heroldsberg. An excursion with the Großschäidter geologist Dr. Angela Wirsing not only led to this important discovery site, but also brought to life the time when the giants, nine meters long, trudged around where today walkers in the Reichswald look for whistles.
