King Ludwig I of Bavaria and his entourage lingered under the cherry tree at the "Salettchen", as he called this pavilion, at the König-Ludwig-häuschen.

    The King Ludwig Pavilion

King Ludwig I of Bavaria knew and loved the Palatinate since his youth.

He initially considered building his summer residence on the Neuberg in Gimmeldingen,

but then had his "Villa Ludwigshöhe" built in Edenkoben (1846 - 1852).

From there the king visited Gimmeldingen several times (until 1860).

He and his entourage liked to linger under the cherry tree at the "Salettchen",

as he used to call this pavilion belonging to the Gimmeldingen winery owner Johann Wilhelm Lingenfelder.
