Wild Herb Nature Trail Nidderau

Two new nature trails opened in Nidderau: The three-kilometer circular trails between Ostheim and Windecken also include mud tables and a scented garden for children.How does the European hamster live under the soil? Which wild herbs grow in the Nidderau district and why there? Where can I find sage? The answers to these and other questions provide two new nature discovery trails. The three-kilometer-long, signposted circular routes between Ostheim and Windecken lead past arable land, orchards and meadows.On a total of eleven picture and text boards, the visitor is informed about nature on site and how it is used by agriculture. Using the example of the old brickworks, walkers can see how herbs and other plants spread as soon as an area used by humans is left to its own devices. The boards also report on the geological history and provide information about how the Windecker and Ostheimer Land once emerged as the foothills of the Wetterau.The starting point for the two nature trails is the playground on Mühlberg in Windecken. During the conception, care was taken to make the nature trails suitable for children. At hands-on stations, the youngsters can literally grasp nature in the pond, at the mud table or in the scented garden with all their senses. It takes around an hour to walk each of the paths.
