In the Polenztal we find one of the largest wild occurrences of Märzenbechern in Saxony. The strongly meandering Polenz flows through the valley and gives the meadows the necessary moisture. The water table is very high, so there is a lot of moisture. Artificially created irrigation ditches on the borderline between hillside forest and meadow favor the microclimate. The wet meadows offer ideal conditions for these early bloomers, which bloom between the beginning of March and the beginning of April. Historical records show that as early as 1500, these meadows were mowed twice a year to harvest hay. The regular late first cut at the end of June favored the sowing and thus the spread of the Märzenbecher. Around 1900 it developed into a tourist attraction. The Landesverein Sächsischer Heimatschutz acquired around 2 hectares of meadows and 1 hectare of forest below the Bockmühle in 1928 and initiated the first protective measures. It is designated as a nature reserve Märzenbecherwiese. By not entering the meadows, this special natural spectacle is preserved.

Saxony's largest wild occurrence of March cups is in the Polenztal. A feast for the eyes and enjoyment in spring only for a short time

The circular route is well signposted and there are several places to stop for refreshments. A lot of people are out and about when the March beaker blossoms, but the blooming meadows are a great eye-catcher.
