The Old Latin School (Am Kirchhof 5) was built in 1565.

The building, constructed in the late Gothic style, is located to the east of the princely mausoleum and was used as a civic and Latin school at the time. The house, which is located directly on the city wall and whose trademark is the gate leading through the middle, can thus be regarded as the forerunner of today's school system.

As the oldest school in the former county of Schaumburg, the Latin school prepared, among other things, for university studies.

Schoolchildren used to come and go here until 1811. Before that, there had been a school in Stadthagen since 1330 to prepare for a degree.

At the end of the 16th century the so-called Gymnasium Illustre was added: an educational institution with the four faculties of philosophy, theology, jurisprudence and medicine - housed in the abandoned Franciscan monastery.

To the east of the mausoleum is the building of the Old Latin School, built in 1565 in the late Gothic style. As early as 1330, a school in Stadthagen attested to the preparation for a degree.

Towards the end of the 16th century, the so-called Illustre Gymnasium was added. Behind it is an educational institution with the four faculties philosophy, theology, jurisprudence and medicine, which was housed in the abandoned Franciscan monastery.

Under Prince Ernst was the high school Illustre in 1619 even raised to a regular university with doctoral rights, which was relocated in 1621 to Rinteln. In Stadthagen remained a citizen and Latin school as a continuous forerunner of today's school system.

Today, the old Latin school houses the Weltladen Stadthagen.

To the east of the mausoleum is the late-Gothic building erected in 1565.
The Old Latin School is considered the forerunner of today's school system. Up until 1811, students were still coming and going here.
