The Griepensee is a naturally nutrient-rich lake.
It is six hectares in size and four meters deep.
The in itself natural process of silting up was additionally accelerated by the discharge of waste water. This lake, with its valuable habitats, should be preserved as naturally as possible and left largely to its own devices.
Nature, which is largely left to itself, and
Nature that is particularly cared for in a park.
Many rare animal and plant species with their special requirements for a habitat with old wood, dead wood, wetlands and reed belts can exist here at Griepensee.
Tolerating this is a piece of conservation that we can all do.
Recognizing this is a piece of enrichment of our experiences.

The pavilion on the Griepensee is a reconstruction of the destroyed fishing house in Buckow Castle Park, which is said to have been built in 1805 according to plans by the young Schinkel. According to the Buckower Fuhrmann Chronicle from 1928, the fishing house has become world-famous because Chamisso is said to have written his art fairy tale "Peter Schlemihl" in it (which is not true and has been refuted). The seating in the pavilion invites you to linger and there are great views of the Griepensee from here.
