The lords of Hüls built the castle in 1455 as a moated castle. It was a replacement for a castle complex that had already existed here before. With the extinction of the Hülser noble family in the 16th century, the castle was in bad shape from that time on. Over the course of the centuries it became a ruin, which has been painstakingly and lovingly restored over the last few decades by the Hueler Heimatverein.
