Ribnitz-Damgarten is also called the “gate to the fish country” and has a special connection to amber. The latter can be experienced in the German Amber Museum in the former Ribnitz monastery or in the foam manufacture of "Baltic Sea Jewelry".

The group of figures on the market square “Die Bernsteinfischer” was created by the sculptor Thomas Jastram. His father, Jo Jastram (1928 to 2011), created the group of figures “The circus is coming”. You can marvel at them in the port of Ribnitz-Damgarten.

The Recknitz flows into the Bodden between Ribnitz-Damgarten West and Ribnitz-Damgarten East. The historical border between the regions of Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania also runs here. The respective coat of arms can be seen on the bridgeheads of the road bridge.
