In the old corner you will find beautiful, old half-timbered houses, some shops and Schweer's eel smokehouse, which has been in the hands of the Schweer family since the beginning of the 19th century. The terrace on the banks of the Steinhuder Meer is a popular destination today.

In the old corner there is a beer garden overlooking the sea, many shops and a family eel smoking farm:
In the year 1801 - the oldest contract with the permission of fishing from the Steinhuder Meer between the family Schweer and the royal court chamber to Schaumburg Lippe proves it.
At a farm shop and a terrace directly on the shores of the Steinhuder Meer was not thinkable at that time. The pigs made their way by horse-drawn carriage on the way into the market hall of Hanover or also on foot by the adjoining villages, in order to bring their day catch to the man.
Decades later, in 1910, the ancestors began to process Schweer's fish products. A smokehouse was built: bricks on the left and right, a jute sack on top and iron doors in front of it - simple but effective. The Schweer's worked on their recipes and managed to meet their taste. At that time it was sold out of the front door: a table, a small advertising sign, finished!
A little later, Heinrich Dietrich Carl Schweer, managing director of the 4th generation, started to build a farm shop directly on the shore of the Steinhuder Meer and called it "Aalquelle". This was the birth of "Schweer's eel smokehouse". Three generations later, the Schweer's started selling fish sandwiches. The visitors did not just want to travel to the Steinhuder Meer, do their fish shopping and drive away again. They wanted to enjoy - the fresh fish, the rustic fishing flair, the idyll by the sea.
The terrace was built right on the shore of the Steinhuder Meer and today is a popular destination with its Fischbratküche. Here you can enjoy the sea air, the bustle on the waterfront, a delicious glass of wine and of course the fish from Schweer's.
