In 1700 the Christ Church was inaugurated as a garrison church. Under the wooden barrel vault of the church, built in the shape of a cross, you will find a beautifully carved king's chair, a pulpit by Hans Pahl, an impressive organ case by Arp Schnitger and many other works of art.

On the Paradeplatz, which was created in the course of the construction of the fortress in 1690, there are many important buildings, some of which were designed by the master builder Domenicus Pelli from Lugano. First and foremost is Christ Church, the former garrison church (1694/1700), which was designed at the request of the Danish king in such a way that the entire garrison - around 2000 people - could find space in it. During his visits to Rendsburg, the king took part in the service in the "Königsstuhl".

The huge building of the Christkirche crouches on the south-west edge of the Paradeplatz, between the Queen Street and the Prince Street. According to plans by the Dutchman Hans van Steenwinkel, the building was built in 1695 and inaugurated in 1700, based on the model of the Holmenskirche in Copenhagen. The baroque oxeyes under the Gothic ogival windows form a curious contradiction between the bright pilasters in front of the red brick wall of the church. But this makes it look light and fits smoothly into the surrounding buildings. Inside it contains beautiful carvings on the king's chair, pulpit and organ.
It is not only the building history that is curious, because a Protestant master builder v. Vijthusen began construction and a Catholic, Domenico Pelli, completed it.
Her altar is also something special: it is “second hand”, i.e. bought used in Glückstadt.
Today, in addition to the services, the church interior is a sought-after location for concerts, because a large orchestra can find space here, the acoustics are excellent and 1300 spectators can be admitted. The beautiful organ with the prospectus by Arp Schnitger completes the attraction of the Christkirche.
