The core of today's Lambertus chapel is the original own chapel of the Carolingian Ramrather Hof, which was built in the 9th, at the latest in the 10th century, as a hall church with a rectangular choir. A settlement has been documented in Ramrath since the 8th century, so chapel construction may have been preceded by a wooden predecessor.
