    Museum ship from 1937
From spring, Neanderland will have one more museum: In a museum ship, an elevated Aalschokker from 1937, the history of eel fishing on the Rhine will be told interactively, excitingly and authentically in Monheim am Rhein. The "Fiat Voluntas" was used for eel fishing on the Rhine near Neuss for almost 40 years until the turn of the millennium. Another attraction on the Rhine is the pier, which opened in 2017, with its 70-metre-long jetty, where ships “on the Neanderland Promenade” can now stop.

The Aalschokker was built in 1937 and sailed on the Rhine for about forty years until 2001 as an eel catcher.
The freighter is now being converted into a museum ship and shows visitors how the fish was caught in the last century. The landing stage is opposite Klappertorstraße, where eels were smoked until 2007.

Here is a museum ship in its element.
        But unfortunately not to visit

A free eel fishing museum on the Fiat Voluntas dedicated to eel fishing. An old ship is on display and freely accessible. There are exhibits in the ship and through a book (a recording that is repeated) a grandfather explains to his grandson how eel fishing was done. A very beautiful thing. Hopefully something like this will be preserved.
A small tour is also possible outside the ship.
Warning: it is narrow and tall people may hit their heads.

The Aalschokker went fishing for 40 years near Neuss until the city of Monheim bought it for 2000, oo € uro. Now it is being rebuilt as a museum ship.

"... The queue at the Monheim jetty is growing. But nobody is allowed on the boat yet. The captain hasn't arrived yet. "He'll be right there," Heiner Müller-Krumbhaar reassures the group, who want to go on a trip to Dormagen together. " It's rare that I'm there earlier than the captain," says the chairman of the Piwipper Böötchen association. And here he comes. Wolfgang Hoffmann (66), black pants, white shirt, sailor's hat. He's a Monheim veteran, for which the Aalschokker, which is anchored next to the pier in front of Monheim, has become their second home. So it is usually not far to the boat, which is moored at the new, stately pier, right next to the fire brigade's lifeboat. ..."
