The castle was first indirectly mentioned in 1254 with "Konrad von Stahleck". It was possibly in the possession of the Lords of Greifenstein, but since it was not destroyed in the Reich War in 1311 with the other Greifensteiner castles, this seems questionable.
From the former castle complex today only the moat is recognizable
