After the First World War, water pollution caused major problems for industry and housing estates. A large reservoir should help. As the costs of 200,000 marks exceeded private capacity, the district and the towns of Wald, Ohligs, Gräfrath and Haan joined in and in 1927/28 built a dam above the bathing beach which was fed by the Holzer brook. The city of Haan contributed a subsidy of 10 000 marks to the construction costs. [Lomberg]
