"... The church was donated in 1312 by the knight Giselbert called Speke, consecrated in 1322 and at times served as the burial place of the von Bodelschwingh family.
Archaeological investigations inside the church in 2001 showed that the building donated by the von Bodelschwingh family was not a new building. Components of a smaller church had been included.
Today's single-nave, two-bay hall building on a transverse rectangular floor plan is spanned by two deeply drawn-down ribbed vaults. The choir with a 5/8 end was created in the second half of the 14th century. The west tower with the octagonal helmet and the roof of the nave date from the end of the 17th century, when the church was rebuilt after it was destroyed in the Franco-Brandenburg War.
