The Sint-Martinuskerk, the cemetery, the church wall and surroundings are protected as a village view because of their historical value. The church was first mentioned in 1121 as the property of Ghent's Saint Bavo Abbey. The eye-catcher in the church is the altar painting by Gustave van de Woestyne (1881-1947) with the rosary as its subject.
The atmospheric cemetery contains the graves of the sculptor George Minne (1866-1941) and ancestor of the Latem groups Albijn Van den Abeele (1835-1918).

Hiking
Located in a walled cemetery east of the village square in the vicinity of the Leie. Wrought iron 18th century entrance gate from the castle of Deurle, donated in 1840 by Mrs. Hopsomere. The current whitewashed walls and fence pillars date from the reconstruction of 1965. The cemetery contains some remarkable graves of, among others, Albijn Van den Abeele (1835-1918), former mayor, writer and painter, of sculptor Baron George Minne (1866-1941 ) with a statue of Mother and child, and the grave of the Ziane-Raes family with a statue by sculptor Leon Sarteel.

Saint Martin, to whom this church is dedicated, is - next to Saint Nicholas - probably one of the most popular saints of all. The memorial day of the former officer in the Roman army is November 11th. On the night after the famous “coat sharing”, when he surrendered half his army cloak to a freezing beggar, Jesus Christ appears to him in a dream. Martin then converted to Christianity and was later elected Bishop of Tours (France) - initially against his will.
