In 1385 Landgrave Balthasar of Thuringia built a castle on this site, the walls of which you can still see in the castle today. 1433, the city was Hessian and the castle official residence of the Hessian administration. Many years later, in the 16th century, the Hessian landgraves built the castle into a castle. Until the Hessian administrative reform in the early 19th century, the castle was repeatedly the residence of family members of the Landgrave, since 1821, the building is the seat of the district administration. It is still in the rooms today, but the castle and courtyard can be visited from the outside.

The castle Eschwege stands on the northwestern edge of the old town of Eschwege, above the castle mill directly on the Werra, in the Werra-Meißner-Kreis in northern Hesse. The three-wing former renaissance-style Landgrafenschloss castle from the 16th and 17th centuries serves since 1821 as the seat of the district administration. In the castle tower, the so-called Dietemann Pavilion, there is an art clock with the Dietemann, the symbol of the city of Eschwege (Wikipedia).

The Landgrafenschloss is a great place with the Eschwege landmark. There is an administration building in the castle itself.
