In 2016 the Emscher Association opened the revamped trail along the northern bank of the Emscher river and named it Emscherpromenade: the section of the Emscher Trail from the 2010 created man-made Phoenix lake, to the South-East entrance of the Westfalen Park. Smooth pavement and great connections to the former rail lines into Phoenix West, across the Emscher into Hoerde Downtown, as well as ramps leading into the neighborhoods streets. At night it is well-lit for safety.

The Emscher Promenade was created on the approximately 18-kilometre section of the Emscher Trail: rest, play and educational stations were built at around 25 outstanding locations. Thanks to new bridges and underpasses under busy roads, you can safely enjoy nature and the offers along the new Emscher Promenade from start to finish on foot or by bike.

Hiking

Very pleasant to walk (not on public holidays, it gets way too crowded!) with the best city, river and industrial views. Every now and then there is “art in passing”, lots of bridges and even a playground
