In 1947, the square was renamed from Sachsenplatz to Brixplatz and has since been a reminder of Josef Brix, urban planner and rector of the Charlottenburg Technical University. In 1909, the development plan for Neu-Westend listed a gravel pit between Reichsstraße and Westendalle that was to be converted into a green space. Charlottenburg's garden director Erwin Barth was responsible for the design. He created a species-rich Brandenburg landscape park with three ponds and a botanical teaching garden. When the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district had to give up maintaining the teaching garden in 2003 for personnel and financial reasons, the Brixplatz park initiative was founded.
