Schönrain Nature Reserve

A beautiful path leads through the Schönrain nature reserve. With a bench to linger

Great steep slope with a wide view and benches to rest. When I was there, birds of prey were busy circling.
The NSG is maintained by the Swabian Alb Association.
The 7.1 hectare (ha) NSG belongs to the Mittleres Albvorland natural area and is located on the right-hand steep slope of the Neckar between 305 m and 325 m above sea level south of Neckartenzlingen. The NSG is surrounded by the Neckar, Erms and Autmuttal landscape protection area.
Large parts of the slope have been grazed for centuries, and today the slope also has a sheep pasture partially interspersed with bushes and juniper (Juniperus communis), predominantly silver thistle pasture (Carlino-Kosleristum). A special feature is the most important occurrence in Baden-Württemberg of the autumn screw stem or autumn twistwort (Spiranthes spiralis), which is threatened with extinction. The aim is to preserve and promote the existence of wood-free, lean grassland with a large, naturally existing variety of locations. The slope is again intensively grazed with goats and sheep.
