Verdun-sur-le-Doubs

The Doubs flows into the Saone at Verdun-sur-le-Doubs. The town has a few bakeries for a snack.

Pleasant town at the confluence of the two rivers Doubs and Saône, with a lively farmers market on the central square on Thursdays. The canal Du Rhône au Rhin, which follows the Doubs from the Rhine river, already leaves the Doubs a long way earlier and joins the larger Saône some 40 km upstream from here. Likewise, from Saint-Jean-de-Losne to the South the trail follows the canal along the much wider stream of the Saône. The EuroVelo 6 route crosses much larger bridges when weaving between the left and right banks from here on south.

The medieval village near the confluence of the Saône and Doubs seems at first glance untouched by the present - until you spot the yachts on the quay. In one of the old buildings, a bar invites you to take a coffee break.
