The Neuffener Heide nature reserve is located on the Albtrauf above the town of Neuffen. The Neuffener Heide is known for its large occurrences of orchids. It is home to many warmth-loving insects, especially butterflies and grasshoppers. 261 plant species have been found in the Neuffener Heide so far. The Neuffener Heide was created through centuries of sheep grazing. In order to preserve the old cultural landscape of Neuffen Heide, the area is grazed by sheep once a year. In addition, emerging trees have to be removed by machine again and again.

There are many native orchids such as spiders, flies, bumblebees and bees' garlic to be found here. The most common thing to come across is the goat strap tongue. But with luck you will also find the white forest bird.
