The Molach or the Molachmaar is one of the numerous funnel-shaped hollows that were created on the Alb plateau around 15 million years ago through volcanic activity. When it rains, the pool fills with water, as the subsoil consists of volcanic tuff that holds water.

This is a so-called volcanic embryo. A very small, sealed volcanic vent filled with water and thus became a biotope. In earlier days, children from the surrounding communities bathed here in summer.
