Right in the center of Assisi, on the market square (the "Piazza del Comune"), stands the church "Santa Maria sopra Minerva", dedicated to the Blessed Mother. In pagan times there was a temple dedicated to the Roman goddess Minerva at this extremely prominent part of the city.
