Tips

  • The castle pond is always great. I really like the view from the gondola station over the pond to the Schlossberg. At the foot of the Schlossberg there are numerous restaurants where you can eat well.

  • The castle pond was created from 1493 by damming the Pleißbach. In 1860 it was acquired by the city and redesigned by the "Beautification Association" from 1893 - among other things, the castle pond island was created. Today it is an important local recreation area in the middle of the city with the opportunity to go pedal boating, strolling, visiting the playground, stopping at the milk house, and much more.

  • The Schlossteich Chemnitz was the former fishing pond of the Benedictine monastery on the Schlossberg.
It was created around 1493 by his monks under Abbot Heinrich von Schleinitz. It is fed by the Pleißenbach, which flows from the valley of the same name north of the Rabensteiner ridge after it rises below the Langenberger Höhe.
