A paradise for anglers, bird watchers and walkers opens up in the south of Herten: the Ewaldsee.

The still water created in the course of the motorway construction provides an optimal habitat for numerous plants and animals - including a variety of different water bird species, including potentially endangered species such as the tufted duck and the great crested grebe.

Two circular routes start at the southern end of the lake. The shorter of the two leads directly along the lake, while the longer path includes the forest bordering to the east to Ewaldstrasse - a varied forest area comes into view.

There are vantage points of the lake especially on the south side, regularly in the plane trees area.

In mid-September 2021, the north side was overgrown and the direct view of the lake was mostly blocked, only two entrances to the lake were found. Just right for the quiet of the water birds and other animals in the nature reserve (if you disregard the constant noise of the A2 motorway).
