In the middle of the former "death strip" on the former German-German border, the "Gessendorfer Wasser" springs from several small streams. This flows into the Föritz river as the "Gessendorf" stream between Sichelreuth and Lindenberg. The streams were first captured above Gessendorf in 1930. A small pond was created next to the spring and benches for hikers were set up. Stonemason Bernhard Schubert made the memorial stone in 1934.
