The Rialto Bridge is one of the four bridges, together with the Accademia bridge, the Scalzi bridge and the bridge of the Constitution, which cross the Grand Canal in Venice. Of the four, the Rialto Bridge is the oldest and certainly the most famous.

Who does not know them, the Rialto Bridge? The most beautiful is still from the water. With a gondola over the Grand Canal, that has something :-)

According to the chronicles, the first step on the Grand Canal consisted of a pontoon bridge. A real bridge, resting on wooden poles, was built by Nicolò Barattieri under the Doge Sebastiano Ziani or Orio Mastropiero (second half of the twelfth century), and assumed the name of "bridge coin" given that, at the ' eastern end of the work, stood the ancient brand.

One of Venice's tourist highlights with nice shopping at the little shops right on the bridge.

The most famous bridge in Venice. It is best to visit them in the early morning or in the evening. Otherwise it is very crowded

The name of the bridge refers to the Piazza Rialto in the Sestiere San Polo, one of the city's most important trading centers in the heyday of the Republic of Venice. Rialto is the dialectical shortening of the area called "rivo alto" (high shore), which is highest in Venice above the mean flood.
