The construction of the original basilica was started in the year 828 and finished in the year 832, to house supposed relics of Saint Mark the Evangelist stolen from Alexandria. I recommend to visit the museum and to visit from above the basilica costs only 5 € entrance and you have a very nice view over the St. Mark's Square
