The Rüdersdorfer Kalkberge used to be where there is now a large hole with heavy machinery to mine the limestone. The scratches and abrasion marks on this very rock were what proved Otto Torell's inland ice theory in 1836. Mighty glacier masses carved the limestone mountains and meltwater formed glacier pots, whirlpool holes and erosion gorges in the shell limestone.
