The chapel on the Zell commemorates the lay brother and town founder Hermann, who began to cultivate what was then known as the "Wilde Au" from here in 1324.
The glass artist Erwin Eisch and his friend Helmut Koller planned the building and began construction in 1967. The basic element of the chapel was a VW bus.
Helmut Koller had a fatal accident while the building was still under construction. Erwin Eisch completed it in 1972.
