In addition to lynxes and wolves, two former inhabitants of the Bavarian Forest can also be observed in the outdoor animal area of the Falkenstein National Park Center: wild horses and ancient cattle. While wild horses populated the post-glacial steppe landscape, ancient cattle lived in Bavaria's forests until the early Middle Ages. This unusual-looking duo connects the nature-oriented enclosures in the animal outdoor area thematically with the Stone Age cave.

A very large area as part of the circular route through the animal sanctuary is reserved for wild horses, primal cattle and aurochs.
Here you can observe these impressive animals in the spacious enclosure and discover the coexistence of these different species.

In addition to wolf and lynx enclosures, this is the third enclosure of the Tierfreigelände Ludwigsthal, in which the other two species of the animal sanctuary - aurochs and wild horses - stay.
