  • The drinking water reservoir in Frauenau was created due to a lack of groundwater in the Bavarian Forest and was built between 1976 and 1983. The drinking water reservoir is a worthwhile destination and also serves as the starting point for many hikes through the Bavarian Forest National Park. The tributaries are the Kleine Regen and the Hirschbach, which originate in the uninhabited area between Falkenstein and Rachel. There are also some beautiful hiking trails with wonderful views that lead around the reservoir and towards Kleiner Rachel and Großer Rachel or Kleiner Falkenstein and Großer Falkenstein.
