The small lake at the beginning of the Levada do Alecrim was not even on our route. Luckily we walked 5 minutes from the Madre da Levada. It is a more than handsome place: great for resting, photographing, marveling! :)

This is a particularly beautiful place on the water: good for a cool down, suitable for a picnic or a marriage proposal.

The Levada do Alecrim ends up in one of the most beautiful 'dead ends' I know. The 'Lagoa da Dona Beja' is a dream place to enjoy, read, meditate, refresh. Then turn around, past heather bushes, wild orchids, huge shrub thistles and in between again and again views.

Even in August, there was still enough water. For those who do not bathe, at least take a break with "feet in." After that, it goes by itself.

The water falls are really a highlight that you should not miss. The path continues on the north side of the river, so you can get to the top side of the water fall. Crossing the river another time, we tried to turn back on the Levada do Pico da Urze. This was not the best Idea because in June 2019 the Levada was a huge building site. I would estimate that it takes at least 2 years before everything is nice and green again at the Levada do Pico da Urze

The hike from the parking lot starts rather modest, but increases every meter. We were here in August, so rather little water. The famous water staircase was therefore dry. That does not matter. At the end, a waterfall rewards you in a dream setting. On the way, an exposed point has to be overcome. Do not look down. Simply further. It is only a few meters.

This was a very unexpected lagoon and waterfall. It really was very beautiful when I visited it in January. The path on the other side of the river is very difficult to find and quite overgrown. However, I did eventually find it after several dead ends and the walk continuing on up to Pico Fernandes is also quite stunning.

The beautifully romantic waterfall invites you to relax and enjoy. If you continue hiking high above Pico Fernandes and descend again to the 25 Fontes or Rabacal, you can make a wonderful circular hike out of it.

The terminus of the PR6.2 Levada do Alecrim. From here you can continue along other Levadas or walk the same way back to the parking lot.
