Barbagallo Craters

Whether on the bus or on foot, being on an active volcano is definitely a special experience.
Whenever you visit, keep in mind that even in the summer months, winter can be cold up here.

A highly recommended experience, no matter if you reach the craters on foot or with the bus from the mountain station.
Developed during the eruption of Etna in 2002/2003, the craters are still hot in the truest sense of the word, in some places steam rises and if you scoop the ashes aside and dig 30 cm deep, the ground is still hot - A little bit wondering if it's wise to just walk around an active volcano ...
Even the view is terrific, Catania is located in the distance at feet and in good weather you can look far over the sea to the Calabrian coast.
