The Fröbelwald is named after Friedrich Fröbel, the founder of the kindergarten. There are diverse playgrounds between the trees, in keeping with Fröbel's vision of using the instinct to play so that children get to know their environment.

At the mountain station of the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn in Lichtenhain, the Fröbelwald has been under construction since 2013. This forest adventure trail is named after Friedrich Froebel, who was born in the neighboring village of Oberweißbach. He was a teacher and the founder of the kindergarten. In accordance with Fröbel's philosophy, the stations convey information about the forest and the history of the Schwarza Valley in a playful and educational way. The information is prepared in a way that touches all of the senses in order to consciously use the child's instinct for activity and play. The accompaniment of the children by adults forms the basis of the concept for the Fröbelwald. The journeyman Johannes and the mouse Lotte guide visitors on their way through the forest.
The Froebel forest is open all year round. The visit is free of charge.
