The Eichbaumsee is located in the south-east of Hamburg in the quad and Marschlanden in the district Bergedorf. The lake is fed by groundwater. It was created in the years 1972 to 1976 by sand extraction from a side arm of the Dove-Elbe. In the north and east of the lake are the two swimming areas with sandy beach and sunbathing area. There are demolition edges near the shore, where the water suddenly becomes very deep. This is typical for a quarry lake. In Eichbaumsee, there is often a large amount of poisonous blue-green algae in summer. In recent years, extensive remedial measures have been carried out to preserve the lake as bathing water in the long term.
