After city elevation in 1343, the city wall was built as a fortification in the middle of the 14th century. But as early as 1538 it was described as dilapidated. A fire destroyed a large part of the wall and a city tower in 1622. 1783 to 1786 repairs were made to the city wall. During the 19th century, however, it gradually fell into disuse, leaving only a few original pieces.
