Along a scenic hiking trail in the northern Würm Valley, a scale model of our solar system (1:557,000,000) has been created. It is one of the longest planetary trails in Europe. The scale was determined based on the size of the northern clock tower of the St. Peter and Paul parish church in Weil der Stadt, which has a diameter of 2.5 meters. All other planetary distances to the sun and within the solar system were derived from this clock.

Hiking

Nobody can really imagine the dimensions of the universe without the aid of a model. Even our closest cosmic neighborhood, the solar system, can only be experienced on a greatly reduced scale.

In cooperation with the Kepler Society e. V., the city of Weil der Stadt created the Johannes Kepler Planet Trail in spring 2012. Along a wonderful hiking route in the northern Würmtal, a scaled-down, reduced model of our solar system on a scale of 1: 557,000,000 was shown. It is one of the longest planetary trails in Europe.
