The Lesum barrier, completed in 1974, is located in Bremen-Burglesum directly on the Lesum. It fulfills two important functions: It protects against flooding and connects the districts of Werderland and Grohn. It is a popular destination for walkers, hikers, runners and cyclists all year round.

Hiking

The technical building on the Lesum serves as flood protection and at the same time as a bridge connection between the North Bremen districts of Grohn (Bremen-Vegesack) and Werderland (Lesumbrok) in Bremen-Burglesum. It was built from 1971 to 1974 about a kilometer above the mouth of the Weser. The barrage was operated by the Bremen Water Management Office until the 1990s and since then by the Bremen Dike Association on the right bank of the Weser.
