Bützow Castle and Castle Square

Today's palace square still gives an idea of the round layout of the former castle complex. Next to the Crooked House shines the impressive Renaissance castle. The castle is currently being renovated. The outer shell is finished, but the inside is still being built vigorously. It will be interesting to see with what concept the castle will be reopened.

The Renaissance castle has an eventful past. The castle has Slavic origins and was temporarily used as the see of the Schwerin bishops, as a university and as a criminal college. In GDR times, the culture house, a library and a museum were housed here.

After a long period of vacancy, the castle, now privately owned, was extensively renovated in 2010.

The tornado on May 5, 2015, which devastated parts of the city, only caused minor damage to the palace.
