This grave site is the best preserved large stone grave in the Osnabrück region and is around 5,000 years old. During an excavation in 1807, clay vessels and shards, an ax and arrowheads were discovered.

Best preserved neolithic (about 5000 years old) site of the 65 megalithic tombs known in the area of Osnabrück. Some are completely destroyed, most are more or less damaged. Although it is not in perfect condition the tomb at Ueffeln Wiemelsberg is one of the best preserved and most remarkable sites.

The rectangular medium sized 6 capstone chamber (appr. 11m x 3m, clear size 9,2m x 1,7m) is orientated East-West. The long sides are built of six orthostats each, while one (as in most cases in this area) orthostat is used for the narrow sides. All orthostats are nearly in situ. The lateral entrance most probably was situated in the middle of the southern long side (as in most cases in this area) between the third and the forth orthostat.

The location is not signposted and can be hard to find. It is along a grassy trail, perhaps this tour can help:
