Best Hikes to Yew Trees on Kettelsberg

Tips

  • On the way through the Kettelsberg you can even find isolated specimens of the yew (Taxus baccata), which is one of the rare conifers in the forest. A typical growth location for the yew is often in the shelter of a beech population.
It is extremely shade-tolerant and slow-growing (only 1 to 3 cm per year).
    The yew is dioecious,
that is: the male and female flowers are not on the same tree.
Of the native conifer species, it can reach the highest age at around 3000 years.
