The inauguration of the Peace Cross took place on Whit Monday 1969.
Penitential walks to the Peace Cross take place regularly. Formerly these were separate penances for men and women.
The Peace Cross was illuminated until 1985 and was therefore visible far into the Rhine Valley.

From here a path leads through the steep slopes below, on which you should be sure-footed!

      Friedenskreuz - field designation Eisenbolz

Field names are designations for individual areas in the local district. They designate both fields, meadows, pastures, vineyards, fallow land, forests, swamps, valleys and riparian areas, as well as hills and mountains. Despite intensive research, the meaning of the hill designation "Eisenbolz" recorded in the original cadastral record of 1824/25 is still not clearly documented. The first part of the word "iron" may in fact refer to the metal, but based on several sources it can be assumed that iron ore was mined here in ancient times, as there are still ore-bearing geological layers both in Boppard and in neighboring Bad Salzig verifiable. The second part of the word "Bolz" (formerly also Bols or Boltz) developed either from "Balz" = "place where the wild chickens court" or from New High German "Bolzen" = metaphorical designation for an earth formation formed by erosion.
