"The Erft rises a few kilometers south of Bad Münstereifel, where in the villages of Frohngau and Holzmühlheim, a good 400 meters above sea level, groundwater flows from the mountains as a stream down the foot of the Eifel. The Erft, which has become a river, crosses the flat Börden landscape in the midst of Euskirchen further arable land, flows past villages, small towns, lignite excavators and large power plants, also through recultivated landscape with new forests and lakes.
