On the initiative of Ludwig Seibert, the hiking trails in the Odenwald began to be marked. Thanks to the work of the Odenwald Club, orientation is pretty foolproof.

In 1889, the Justice Councilor Ludwig Seibert created our path designation system, which is still essentially valid today.
The marking of hiking trails is active nature conservation, because it creates sufficient open spaces for the flora and fauna in close cooperation with forestry authorities and nature conservation organizations.
The Odenwald Club's hiking trail network, which covers the entire Odenwald and its outlying areas and is represented in the four federal states of Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate, covers around 5,000 kilometers.
Around 140 volunteer path wardens of the OWK are constantly trying to keep the markings of the hiking trail network in order. The OWK works very closely and reliably with local tourism, the two nature parks and the German Hiking Association.
This large network of hiking trails between the Rhine, Main, Tauber and Kraichgau is available free of charge to anyone interested in hiking.

Ludwig Seibert really deserves this memorial stone! What would we hikers do without his trail marking system?
