Tips
Similar to the neighboring towns of Laucha (Obertor) and Naumburg (Marientor), the existing town wall was significantly expanded in the middle of the 15th century as part of the Saxon Civil War. It received ramparts and moats from 1437 to 1455 and the city gates were reinforced with barbicans. In 1447 it proved itself immediately when it withstood the two-week siege by the Saxon Elector Frederick II.
