Today it is used for drinking water supply and flood protection
was created in the Middle Ages for tin mining
November 11, 2022
Originally the Rote Weisseritz rose from the soap bog at this point. When tin mining in 1987, at the end of the GDR era, demanded more and more water, the New Galgenteich was created there, in its source area, and the moor disappeared.
(In 1990 the GDR was history, in 1991 tin mining also happened. What remained was a half-finished reservoir ... It was finished in 1993; today it is used for drinking and industrial water production.)
