A storm in November 1826 claimed no less than 16 vessels, leading to the clamour for the construction of lighthouses on the Moray Coast and on the Tarbat Peninsula. The result on the Moray shores was the Covesea Skerries Lighthouse, that served the region well for a century and a half before the light became defunct and was taken out of operation on 2nd March 2012. Today, this beautiful building is a conspicuous feature on the path of the Moray Coast Trail into Lossiemouth.
